Mercer Island shuts out Newport | Girls prep soccer

In their second game of the season, the Mercer Island girls soccer team shut out Newport 1-0 on Thursday night.
Marissa Hammerstrom scored the only goal of the night in the 77th minute, assisted by Piper Casey. Mercer Island goalie Corey Goelz was credited with the shutout.
The Islanders are now 2-0 this season and will take on Lake Washington at the Kangs homefield on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. Newport will host Blanchet on Saturday, Sept. 8 in a 3 p.m. game.
