9/11 Heroes Run Saturday in Luther Burbank Park | Sports brief

This Saturday, Sept. 15 Mercer Island will be host to the 9/11 Heroes Run at Luther Burbank Park.

The Run, part of a national effort for the Travis Manion Foundation is $25 per person. Racers can choose either a 5k or 1.5 mile fun run.

Half of the proceeds from the race go to local nonprofits which help honor those from Sept. 11 – veterans, first responders, military and civilian. The Seattle area event will be partnering with Team Jesse foundation.

Check in begins at 8 a.m. on the morning of the race, followed by opening ceremonies at 8:15 a.m. The 5k race begins at 9:30 a.m. and the 1.5 mile fun run will start at 9:35 a.m.

The Travis Manion Foundation will be hosting similar events around the country in honor of the Sept. 11 anniversary.
