Mercer Island third at Arizona invitational | Girls prep swimming

The Mercer Island girls swimming team traveled to Chandler, Arizona over the weekend to take part in the Wolves Classic Invitational, a multi-state meet.
The Islanders finished third overall with 207 points. Xavier College Prepatory finished first with 313 points, while Pinnacle took second with 229.
The Islanders finished second in the 200-yard relay with Caitlin Cox, Danielle Deiparine, Sabrina Kwan and Christina Williamson racing to a 1:52.36 finish. Xavier took first in 1:50.30.
Grace Wold won the 200 individual medley race in 2:08.88, while Deiparine was 11th in the same event. Wold also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly race, with a 58.94 time. The race was won by a swimmer from Pinnacle in 56.93.
The Islanders 200 freestyle relay team of Williamson, Alex Seidel, Emily Olsen and Wold finished in fifth place with a 1:41.72 time. Cox finished the 100 backstroke race in fifth place, racing to a 1:00.07 time. Deparine was seventh on the 100 breaststroke event, finished in 1:09.17. The race was won by a swimmer from Valley Christian in Arizona with a 1:05.30 time.
The Islanders return home with a non-conference meet against Issaquah on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Mary Wayte Pool at 3:30 p.m.
