Mercer Island took on Interlake on Tuesday, Sept. 18, battling the 2A defending state champions to a 1-1 tie.
The Saints, now competing in the 3A classification this season, held off the Islanders under the 25th minute when Katherine Vetter hit a cross to Laura Harrison who scored for the 1-0 lead.
Mercer Island held the lead until the 45th minute of the match, when Interlake’s Jamiee Farrell hit the mark after being assisted by Annika Granfors.
“We had a couple of other good chances later in the second half,” said Islanders head coach Terry Ryan. Despite chances, the team wasn’t able to retake the lead.
“Interlake is No. 2 in the conference and it was a great game,” said the coach. “There was a playoff atmosphere and the girls played really hard.”
The Islanders will travel to Juanita on Thursday, Sept. 20 for another KingCo match.
