The Mercer Island girls soccer team has a firm grasp on the top of the KingCo standings after beating league rival Liberty 1-0 on Monday evening.
The Islanders, now 4-0-1 in league and 6-0-1 overall, beat Liberty on a 73rd minute goal from Marissam Hammerstrom, assisted by Laura Harrison.
“Liberty was the top team and it was a very close battle,” said head caoch Terry Ryan. “Liberty is clearly a top team.”
Hammstrom has scored seven goals this season, the second most in KingCo, while goalie Corey Goelz earned her fourth shutout of the year, leading the league.
Mercer Island will travel to play Mount Si on Thursday, Sept. 28 in a 7:30 p.m. game.
