Mercer Island’s girls soccer program traveled to Snoqualmie on Thursday, Sept. 27 for a KingCo game against Mount Si, which the Islanders won 2-0.

After battling through the first half with no points on the scoreboard, Mercer Island’s Alexi Odegard hit the mark in the 62nd minute, assisted by senior Michele Day. Nine minutes later, the team added its second goal of the game when Kianna Chang scored, assisted by Marissa Hammerstrom. Senior goalie Corey Goelz was credited with the shutout.

“It’s always a physical game with them and yesterday it sure was,” said head coach Terry Ryan. “It was quite a battle, they were really aggressive and Mount Si was doing extremely well in the first half and a couple of girls were injured. That was the catalyst and we got the goal. It was Alexi’s first game back from an injury and for her to come in and score was huge.”

The Islanders will host Bellevue on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
