Newport beats Mercer Island | Boys prep tennis

The Newport boys tennis team beat Mercer Island in a non-conference match on Monday, Oct. 1. Newport won 4-3 over the Islanders.

In the singles competition, Zack Elliott beat Kevin Yuchen 6-3, 6-3 and Henry Smith beat Ausin Gu 6-0, 6-0. Newport’s Edwin Carlos beat Charlie Williams 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, while Kevin Xu, from Newport, beat Cameron Coe 6-4, 6-2.

In the doubles competition, Brian Hou and Ben Elliott lost to Dylan Harlon and Matt Sham 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. The Islander duo of Kyle Baska and Matt Seifert beat Ryan Cheung and Alex Nambua 6-4, 7-6. Max Tilden and Josh Hartmann lost to David An and Derek Huang 6-4, 6-3.

The Islanders will host Skyline on Monday, Oct. 8 in a 3:45 p.m. match.
