The Mercer Island boys water polo team hopped on a ferry Wednesday evening and traveled to Bainbridge Island for a match against the Spartans. The Islanders won 19-8.
Mercer Island had an early 6-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, and increased their lead to 11-3 at the half, but Bainbridge put pressure on the Islanders, adding several points in the third and fourth quarter. In the end it wasn't enough for the Spartans to overcome the early deficit.
The Islanders will take on Roosevelt at Helene Madison Pool on Monday, Oct. 22, before hosting Bellevue on Oct. 24. The team will travel to California for the annual trip to the San Diego Tournament Oct. 25-28.
