The Mercer Island volleyball team beat Bainbridge in the semifinals of the SeaKIng District volleyball tournament on Saturday morning. The 3-1 win over the Spartans earned the Islanders a ticket to the championship match, which will be played at 7:30 p.m. against league rival Mount Si. The game will be played at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle.
Against Bainbridge earlier Saturday, individually for the Islanders, Brooke Behrbaum had nine kills and five blocks. Robby Blood had five kills and 16 digs, while Kris Brackmann posted 11 kills, 16 digs, five blocks and four aces. Sara Lindquist had 17 kills and two blocks, with Lottie MacAulay adding 14 kills and five blocks. Lorial Yeadon had 18 digs in the win.
The Islanders have played Mount Si three times this season, winning each match, typically going to five games. The two teams played for the KingCo championship last weekend. Both teams are guaranteed a spot in the state tournament, which begins next Friday, but the winner of the District title earns the No. 1 seed, while second place will be seed No. 2 out of District 2.
