Mercer Island High School quarterback Alec Bean is heading to play in Italy this spring as part of the Team Stars & Strips football team.

Bean, a senior at Mercer Island, is the only player from Washington on the team and one of three quarterbacks that will play in the Global Bowl against the Italian U19 National Team on April 13 in Turin, Italy. The team will face the top Italian players at Primo Nebiolo Stadium, the home of the local club team Giaguari Torino.

Team Stars & Stripes features American players from across the U.S., from 10 high schools in six states.

Bean and the team will be in Italy in the week leading up to the game, traveling throughout Italy.

This year's Team Stars & Stripes is coached by Catalina Foothills coach Jeff Scurran, along with coaches from across the country.
