The Mercer Island eighth grade boys ETL basketball team won the district championship during the first weekend in March.

On their way to the title, Mercer Island beat Puyallup 40-35 in the quarterfinals, followed by a 37-24 win over Bellevue in the semifinals.

Mercer Island faced three time defending champion Bothell in the finals. The Islanders lead the game throughout, and would win 40-36.

The team finished the season with a 16-2 league record and was 24-6 overall.

The eighth grade team included: Jacob Evans, Jack Smith, Blake Swanson, Sami El Rafeey, Ethan Chen, Will Krause, Jaelin Tate, Shain Scott, Bligh Bjarnason, Justin Myers, David Sims and Jack Delay. The team was coached by Patrick Frost and David Kelley.
