Mercer Island earns big win in first match of the season | Girls prep lacrosse

The Mercer Island girls lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Monday night, beating Garfield 19-2.

The Islanders were up 11-1 at the end of the first half, followed by an 8-1 score in the second half to lift the team to a 1-0 season record.

Senior captain Tyler Sherper had five goals and two assists for the team, while fellow captain Dulce Moll added four goals and two assists in the win. Katie Harrie had five ground balls for the Islanders on defense, while goalie Andrea Hatsukami made three saves.

Mercer Island will play Lake Sammamish on Tuesday, March 19 at 8 p.m. at MIHS.
