Mercer Island beats defending 4A state champs Kamiak | Girls prep tennis

The Mercer Island girls tennis team started off the 2013 season with a tough opponent – reigning 4A state champions Kamiak. The Islanders prevailed, finishing with a perfect 7-0 score.

Islander Nora Tan won the singles match over Sally Park 6-0, 4-6, 6-0, while Lydia Venditti beat Zoe Jovanovich 6-3, 7-5. Gabby Venditti beat Elizabeth Norris 6-0, 6-0 and Melanie Lee beat Hannah Hertzing 6-1, 6-0.

In the doubles competition, Caroline Dillon and Caroline Hamilton beat Kamiak's Estella Kim and Marci Zanwell 6-0, 6-0. Ashley Larson and Jamie Mounger defeated Isabella Lee and Stacy Lee 6-1, 6-0, while Miji Suhr and Catherine Seifert beat Annette Song and Jenny Ahn 6-0, 6-1.

The Islanders will travel to play Issaquah on Wednesday, March 13 for a 3:45 p.m. match.
