Coach: Liz Shields

Number of athletes: 40

Last season: The Islanders finished fourth in the girls state tournament. The team was 12-4-1 overall last season.

Strengths: “Our team is athletic, and a core group of these players have been on this team for the past three seasons,” said Shields. “They are a motivated group who have worked hard in the offseason to prepare for the start of the 2013 season.”

Focus: “The team this year is focusing on one game at a time, playing Garfield in our first home game on March 11,” said the coach. “The team is working on team offense and defense and are focusing on working together to achieve a common goal. They want to take the next step this season and make it to the championship.”

Captains: Seniors Tyler Sherper, Dulce Moll, Saffron Snethen.

Game to watch: Lakeside, Bainbridge and Lake Sammamish.

“We have some big games coming up this season,” said Shields. “The away game against Lakeside on March 27, and Bainbridge on May 2, are always highly competitive, and Lake Sammamish at home on March 19 promises to be a big one.”
