Coach: Jessica Steinle
Number of athletes: 12
Last season: Mercer Island was 4-12 overall, beating Garfield, Hazen and KingCo opponent Sammamish twice.
Strengths: “Veteran leadership,” said head coach Steinle. “Our infield is comprised of mostly returners and they are able to read each other and communicate well on the field.”
Focus: “Offense. In the past, it’s taken too many games to start swinging the bat well,” said the coach.
Captains: Makenna Pellerin and Kacey DiJulio.
Game to watch: Sammamish, Garfield and Bellevue.
The Islanders will play Garfield on March 15 at 4 p.m. at the Bobby Morris Playfields, and will take on Sammamish, Thursday, March 21, at home at 4:30 p.m. The Islanders’ first meeting with Bellevue will be on April 8 at 4:30 p.m. at the South Mercer Playfields.
