Coach: Elliot Powell

Number of athletes: 110

Last season: The Islanders finished 10th at the district meet, with nine competing at the 3A state meet in late May. Senior captain Eric Schulz was second overall at state in the boys 800-meter race.

Strengths: “The coaching staff,” said new head coach Elliot Powell. “We have a good mix of experienced and up-and-coming coaches, and we communicate really well.”

“Our captains, they are all passionate about track, and I think that will rub off on everyone as the season progresses,” said the coach. “The community. This is my first year as head coach. The support I’m getting from families, the booster club and the administration at the school has really made this transition for me a lot smoother and allows me to really focus on coaching.”

Focus: “Right now we are focusing on running mechanics, getting everyone’s form corrected and putting athletes in the right events,” said Powell.

Captains: Sarah Bjarnason, Emily Lightfoot, Alida Scalzo, Cricket Travis, John Gallagher, Risley Lesko, Espen Platou and Eric Schulz.

Meet to watch: “May 8, the start of KingCos,” said Powell.
