Mercer Island splits first week of games | Boys prep soccer

In the first week of games, the Mercer Island boys soccer team split its first non-conference matches. The team beat Ballard on Tuesday, before falling to Roosevelt on Thursday.
The Islanders earned its first win of the season on Tuesday, March 12, beating non-league opponent Ballard, 2-0, at home.
Ryan Hill scored both goals for the Islanders, the first game off an assist from Sean Bender in the 20th minute of the match, while the second was a goal in the 56th minute off an assist from Jamie Lungmus.
On Thursday, March 14, the Islanders traveled to Ingraham’s field to take on 4A Roosevelt. The Roughriders won 3-0.
Eric Conte scored the first goal, just 10 minutes in off an assist from Tucker Olsen. The second goal came in the 12th minute from Charlie Spurr, assisted by Shane Gomez.
Just before halftime, Roosevelt hit the mark for a third time, when Jules Puckett, assisted by Spurr, scored in the 36th minute.
Mercer Island began conference play this week, playing Lake Washington on Tuesday, March 19, after Reporter deadline. The Islanders will host Sammamish on Thursday, March 21, in a 7:30 p.m. game at MIHS. Next Tuesday, March 26, Mercer Island will host Interlake.
