Mercer Island falls to Lake Washington | Prep fastpitch

The Mercer Island fastpitch team traveled to Kirkland on Tuesday, March 19 for a KingCo game against Lake Washington, squeezing in a game just before heavy rainfall. The Islanders lost 21-11.
Mercer Island had the early lead, which the Kangs quickly caught up to, making the score 2-2 at the end of the first inning. The Islanders broke out in a big way with their second trip to the plate, scoring six runs in the second, while allowing four runs by Lake Washington.
Lake Washington held the Islanders to two in the top of the third, and scored six runs to make it a 12-10 game going into the fourth.
Mercer Island wasn’t able to round the bases in the fourth, but allowed five runs by the Kangs to further extend Lake Washington’s lead. In the final inning of the night, Mercer Island scored one run, and allowed four.
Kacey DiJulio was 2-4 at bat, while McKenna Pellerin was 4-4 with three runs and one triple. Morgan Peyou was 3-4 at the plate with three runs scored.
The team will take on Sammamish on Thursday, March 21 at home beginning at 4:30 p.m.
