Mercer Island beats Skyline | Boys prep lacrosse

The Mercer Island boys lacrosse team hosted Skyline on Friday, March 29, winning a close game 11-10.

Skyline had a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Mercer Island outscored the Spartans 3-0 in the second for a half time score in favor of the Islanders 5-4.

After the break, the game continued to be close. Mercer Island led with a 9-8 score going into the final minutes. Though Skyline outscored the Islanders 4-2 in the final minutes, it wasn't enough to overtake the earlier deficit.

Peter Mahony scored three goals in the game with one assist, while Cooper Johnson added three goals, as did Steen Swedstedt. Grant Preisler scored a goal, along with Devlin Conway. Benji Rothenberg made three saves in the match.

Mercer Island, now 6-1-0 this season, will travel east for the team's annual spring break trip to play teams on the East Coast. The Islanders will face Duxbury High on Tuesday, April 2 in a 4 p.m. game in Massachusetts.
