Mercer Islanders compete at Washington Junior Olympics gymnastics competition

Two Mercer Island girls recently took part in the USA Junior Olympics Washington State gymnastics competition in late April.

Islanders Sophia McGuffin and Emerey Sampson competed in the event. McGuffin, a fifth grader at Lakeridge Elementary, is a level 6 gymnast and won the bronze medal in the all-around competition with a final score of 36.95. Sampson, a fifth grader at West Mercer, is a level 5 gymnast who also won bronze in the all-around with a score of 36.325.

Both girls compete and train at Emerald City Gymnastics in Redmond.
