After cruising to a 69-28 win over Sammamish Friday night at Mercer Island High School, the Mercer Island High School girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, losing a non-conference game to Inglemoor 69-35 Saturday, Dec. 7 at Inglemoor High School. The loss brings the Islanders’ record to 2-1 overall on the season.

Things started out rough for Mercer Island, as the Islanders trailed the Vikings 18-9 after the first quarter and 33-15 at the half. Despite a spirited effort in the second half, Mercer Island couldn’t catch Inglemoor as the Vikings continued to pull away. Taylor Krause led Mercer Island in scoring with 12 points, and Jess Blakeslee added 9 points. Senior captain Julia Blumenstein and Anna Luce each had 4.

It was a much different story the night before, as Mercer Island got its first KingCo victory of the season, beating Sammamish 69-28 at Mercer Island High School. Jess Blakeslee led the way with 14 points, and Rachel Tessem had 12 points. Senior captain Julia Blumenstein and Taylor Krause each had 10 points, while Anna Luce and senior captain Renae Tessem each had 8 points for the Islanders.

Mercer Island will travel to Juanita High School to take on the Rebels Friday, Dec. 13, followed by a trip to Mount Si to take on the Wildcats Saturday, Dec. 14. Both games will begin at 6:30 p.m.
