Islanders pin Saints | Prep wrestling

The Mercer Island High School wrestling team defeated the Interlake Saints 54-21 Thursday, Dec. 20 at Interlake High School. The Islanders clinched the victory with six straight 6-point wins, which were by pin or forfeit, to finish the match. Junior Taylan Yuasa remained undefeated on the year, running his record to 11-0.

Interlake's Albert Chen pinned Kevin Pedersen to win the 106 weight class, while Yuasa pinned Michael Veliyev to win the 113 match.In the 126 division, Luke Wilson pinned Brandon Gim, and Jake Pruchno won the 132 match by forfeit. Scott Lee pinned Scott Alcaide to win the 138 match, Mike Ong pinned John Harman to win the 145 match and Kenji Walker won the 152 match by forfeit. In the 160 weight class, Nic Meinzinger-Richards pinned Arnav Iyer. Interlake's Jon Palagashvili pinned Teague Frazier to win the 170 match, and Interlake's Bhek Simanago won a 5-3 decision over Tanner Ranz to take the 182 match. Evan Condon won the 195 match by forfeit, Dylan Majewski pinned Sohan Goll to win the 220 match and Interlake's Dean Jones won the 285 match by forfeit.
