Mercer Island beats Palisades | Prep boys basketball

Participating in the Seahawk Redondo Beach Classic, the Mercer Island boys basketball team beat Los Angeles' Palisades 54-45 Thursday, Dec. 26 at Redondo Union in California. The win brings the Islanders' record to 7-0 on the year.

Senior captain Chris Lawler led the Islanders in scoring with 16 points while adding two steals. Kaleb Warner had 14 points and six rebounds and Andrew Pickles had 11 points and four rebounds. Co-captain Jake Stenberg had six points, four assists, seven rebounds and two steals, and Nick Taylor had four points, two assists, three rebounds and three steals. Teddy van der Velden pitched in two points and led Mercer Island on the boards with ten rebounds.

Next up, the Islanders take on Muir High School Friday, Dec. 27 in Pasadena.
