Mercer Island beats second-place Liberty | Prep girls basketball

The Mercer Island girls basketball team got a big road win Wednesday, Jan. 29, beating Liberty 53-48 at Liberty High School. The win improved the Islanders to 9-3 in KingCo and 11-6 overall, bringing Mercer Island one game behind second-place Liberty and two games behind first-place Juanita.

Julia Blumenstein led the Islanders in scoring with 12 points, and Suri Johnson had 9 points. Jess Blakeslee contributed 8 points, Taylor Krause had 7 points and Jamie Mounger pitched in 5 points for Mercer Island.

The Islanders will host Lake Washington at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. Mercer Island won its Jan. 8 matchup with the Kangs 58-49 at Lake Washington High School.
