Mercer Island beats Interlake for 3A KingCo title | Prep boys swimming

The Mercer Island boys swim and dive team beat Interlake High School 122.5-57.5 Tuesday, Feb. 4, winning the 3A KingCo title at the Crest/Crown Dual Meet Championship.

Mercer Island's team of Austin Ralph, Ben Gore, Duncan Koontz and Karl MacLane won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.94. Koontz took the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.78, while Teddy Larkin took the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:12.05. Issaquah won the 50 freestyle with Michael Lorr coming in at 21.64, while the Islanders' Benjamin Dixon won the diving event with a score of 165.55.

Austin Ralph won the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.33, and Koontz won the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.92. Chris Apodaca won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.58, and Mercer Island won the 200 freestyle relay with the team of MacLane, Matthew Hanson, Brandt Waesche and Ian Caldwell coming in at 1:31.11. Issaquah took the 100 backstroke and breastroke, with Albert Furlong coming in at 58.01 and Lorr finishing at 1:03.09, respectively. And in the 400 freestyle relay, Mercer Island won with the team of Hanson, Waesche, Gore and Andrew Fukuda coming in at 3:28.25.

Next for the Islanders will be the KingCo swim and dive championships Saturday, Feb. 8 at the University of Washington's Pavilion Pool.
