The Mercer Island girls basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday, as the Islanders lost to Bellevue 59-43 at Mercer Island High School. The loss dropped the Islanders to 10-4 in KingCo and 12-7 overall.

Celebrating its seniors before the game, the Islanders started off hot from beyond the arc. Suri Johnson, Julia Blumenstein, Ari Moscatel and Taylor Krause all hit 3-pointers as Mercer Island took a 14-8 lead after one. But turnovers and fouls plagued the Islanders in the second quarter, as the Wolverines took a 23-20 lead into halftime. Bellevue extended its lead in the third quarter with a 14-4 run and led 43-30 after three. The Islanders had another run in them, opening the fourth quarter drawing trips to the foul line and pressing the Wolverines to close the gap to six. But Bellevue's Mandy Steward knocked down a couple late 3-pointers to keep Bellevue's lead out of reach. Julia Blumenstein led the Islanders in scoring with 11 points, while Taylor Krause had 7, Jess Blakeslee and Suri Johnson each had 6 and Ari Moscatel pitched in 5 points for Mercer Island.

With Liberty beating Lake Washington 62-30, Mercer Island and Bellevue tied for third place in the KingCo standings. A coin flip will determine seeding between the two teams for the KingCo tournament. Regardless, Mercer Island will host its first-round tournament game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8.
