Girls open KingCo tourney with win over Mount Si | Prep girls basketball

The Mercer Island girls basketball team kicked off the first round of the KingCo tournament beating Mount Si 68-47, Saturday, Feb. 8 at Mercer Island High School.

The offense was clicking for the Islanders from the start, as Mercer Island led by ten after one and 30-19 at the half. The Islanders exploded for 21 points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 21. Mount Si gave a strong effort scoring 17 in the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats couldn’t get any closer.

Julia Blumenstein led the Islanders in scoring with 15 points, while Jess Blakeslee and Anna Luce each had 10. Tre Saunders had 7 points, Renae Tessem had 5 and Suri Johnson, Ari Moscatel and Rachael Tessem each had 4 points for Mercer Island.

The Islanders will play the second-seeded Liberty Patriots at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Bellevue College. Mercer Island went 1-1 against Liberty this season, winning the previous matchup between the two teams 53-45 at Liberty High School.
