Boys LAX suffers first loss

In its final matchup of a three-game East Coast swing, Mercer Island boys lacrosse suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, April 12, falling to defending Connecticut Class M state champion Wilton High School 15 – 12 in Wilton, Conn. The Islanders finished its East Coast trip with a 2-1 record.

Coming off a 13-5 victory the previous night over Connecticut's Xavier High School, the Islanders fell behind 4–0 before responding with a pair of goals scored by Brett Bottomley. But the Islanders would only score one more in the opening half, as Wilton pulled away for a 9–3 lead at the intermission. In the third, Wilton struck first extending its lead to seven goals before the Islanders would work their way back into the contest on a Cooper Johnson goal late in the game. With its deficit cut to just three goals at 12 – 9, Mercer Island would give up another two before Kiernan Coles took a Bottomley pass on an extra man opportunity to make it 15 – 10. The Islanders would score two more but were unable to overcome the Wilton squad.

Mercer Island (12-1-0) will face Bainbridge (4-4-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at Bainbridge High School.

Cougars cruise past Mercer Island baseball

Mercer Island baseball saw a three-game losing streak end Saturday, April 12, as the Islanders lost to Bothell 9-0 at Bothell High School. The Cougars used a six-run second inning to jump ahead early while allowing the Islanders only one hit to cruise to victory. Mercer Island will take on Liberty at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 14 at Liberty High School.
