Water polo falls to Newport

Newport took an early 2-0 lead and used a three-goal third period to beat Mercer Island girls water polo 8-4 Monday, April 21 at Mary Wayte Pool. Jacque Li, Nola Peshkin, Alicia Nordal and Natalie Robinson all scored for Mercer Island. In goal, Davis Simmons had four saves and Elena Sedlock had two. The Islanders will travel to Auburn to take on Auburn Riverside High School at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24.

Sammamish rallies past Mercer Island fastpitch

After holding a 2-0 lead over Sammamish through four innings Monday, the Totems scored five runs in its last three innings to rally past Islander fastpitch 5-2 at South Mercer Playfields. Morgan Peyou went 2-3 at the plate while scoring a run for Mercer Island. Mercer Island will host Interlake at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at South Mercer Playfields.

Girls lacrosse pulls away in second half

Mercer Island girls lacrosse used nine second-half goals to pull away from SW Seattle, winning 17-6 Monday at Mosier Field in Burien. Holly Waggoner had seven goals for Mercer Island and Leah Paborsky contributed three. Mercer Island will take on Snohomish at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Glacier Peak High School.

Baseball beats Lake Washington

Mercer Island baseball won its second straight game Monday, beating Lake Washington 2-1 at Island Crest Park. Will Mansfield pitched five innings for the Islanders, giving up one run on three hits, with the lone run being a solo home run to Lake Washington's Jake Wikel. Aidan Plummer earned the win in a relief appearance, allowing no hits in two innings and striking out four. Zach Rothenberg went 3-3 and Michael Petrie went 2-4 with an RBI for Mercer Island. Next up, the Islanders will take on Sammamish at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Sammamish High School.
