Undefeated tennis scores another win

Mercer Island tennis continued its undefeated streak Tuesday, April 29, beating Mount Si 7-0 at Mount Si High School. Melanie Lee defeated Kerry Pemberton 6-0, 6-0, Kimia Preston beat Regan Baltasar 6-0, 6-0 and Caroline Dillon won over Hannah Jones 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, Gabby and Lydia Venditti won over Peyton McCulley and Olivia Howland 6-1, 6-0, Miji Suhr and Sammy Sweet defeated Alaina Kinghorn and Hannah Still  6-1, 6-3 and Jamie Mounger and Catherine Seifert beat Olivia Bewsey and Ashley Cole 6-1, 6-0. Next up, Mercer Island will take on Newport at 3:45 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Mercer Island High School.

Liberty tops Mercer Island boys soccer

Liberty boys soccer dealt Mercer Island its second conference loss of the season Tuesday, beating the Islanders 1-0 at Liberty High School. Liberty's Colton Ronk scored in the 48th minute for the Patriots, while goalie Quinn Magendanz recorded the shutout. Mercer Island, in third place in the KingCo standings at 6-2-4, will take on Mount Si at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Mercer Island High School. With a record of 8-2-2, Mount Si is tied with Liberty to lead the conference.

Boys lacrosse routes Patriots

Coming off Friday's double-overtime victory over Bothell-Inglemoor, Mercer Island boys lacrosse routed Liberty 19-2 Tuesday at Liberty High School, improving to 8-0-0 in KingCo and 15-1-0 overall. Reid Fuhr had five goals and an assist for the Islanders, while Peter Mahony contributed five goals and three assists and Benji Rothenberg had 3 saves in goal. Mercer Island, currently tied with Issaquah for first place in its conference, will take on the Eagles at 8 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Issaquah High School.
