Girls Mount Baker Crew takes sixth in nation | Community sports

After winning the USRowing Junior Regional Championship last month in Vancouver, Wash., Mercer Island rowers Annika Christofferson, Charlotte Lepp, Gretchen Peterson and Margaret Seaton helped its Mount Baker Women’s Varsity 8 boat finish in sixth place at the USRowing Youth National Championships June 13-15 at Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, Calif.

Kicking things off Friday, June 13, the Mount Baker Crew placed second in their heat to earn a berth in the semifinal round. On Saturday, needing to place in the top three to move into the Grand Final, the Mount Baker Crew took third place by 0.3 seconds over Boston’s Charles River Inc. crew team.

In Sunday’s final, the Oakland Strokes took the national championship race for its second-straight title.

The Mount Baker Crew includes Maddie Lyons, Laura Marck, Emma Jane Gardiner, Lucy Porter, Elena Gleed and and is coached by Jason Coffman.
