Mercer Island select BU16 soccer team, the Whitecaps, won the Tumwater Soccer Club's 35th annual Kick in the Grass tournament, which took place the weekend of July 19-20. The Whitecaps swept the U16/17 bracket to finish with a 4-0 record in Washington’s longest running youth soccer tournament.

The Whitecaps consist of team members Andrew Arvish, Matthew Chansky, Luke Boksem, Max Boksem, Oliver Corcoran, Jack Delay, Ben Dixon, Daniel Espeleta, Eric Dreyer, Renato Cardenas, Finn Childress, Dominic Giampapa, Kenny Koning, Jackson Kelley, Kyle Stolzman and Mitchell Woolston.

Whitecaps coach Tom Koning commented, “The boys played great. I was really proud of how versatile and resilient they were. We started the tournament with 15 healthy kids, but illness and injury reduced the squad to just 11. They really pulled together as a team.”
