Senior Rachel Godfred has achieved Ironman status for the fourth year in a row as an Islander girls swimmer.
Ironman in high school swimming involves achieving state times in all eight individual events. This is the first time in school history that a female swimmer has achieved this feat during all four years.
Mercer Island High School swim coach Jeff Lowell has never had a female athlete achieve such an honor.
“This is a very difficult thing to do, and to do it every year in their high school career is something to be very proud of,” said Lowell, who has coached the team since 2000.
