The Mercer Island girls soccer team finally stopped its long five game winless streak and fall from the top of the 3A KingCo league with a 2-0 victory against Interlake Tuesday. The win clinches a playoff spot for the team, which went without a win since October 9.
Mercer Island got on the board just after halftime as Tara Nielson found teammate Ellen Haas for the first score of the game. It was the Islanders' first goal in over 240 minutes of play.
Mercer Island would get one more goal, as Rachel Pedreira assisted teammate Christina Mosnes during the 71st minute of the game.
The victory against Interlake (0-11-1, 3-12-1) finishes the Islander's regular season schedule with a 6-4-2 in-league record and 6-7-2 overall. The team finished third overall in KingCo, six points out of first place, a position it held with 5-0-1 record earlier this season.
Mercer Island will play during the first round of the post season Tuesday with its opponent and site to be determined.
