MI takes third at 3A KingCo gymnastics meet

The Mercer Island gymnastics team finished third overall at the 3A KingCo league meet, Saturday, at Mount Si High School. The team scored over 160 points for the first time all season, and Laura Maruhashi took second place in all-around.
The Islanders’ 163.025 points were the most earned by the team all year, but Newport (175) and Issaquah (173.425) dominated the meet.
Maruhashi managed to earn a share of the KingCo title on vault, posting a 9.2. Georgia Reynolds of Mount Si also scored a 9.2. Reynolds was the only thing between Maruhashi and the KingCo all-around title. Maruhashi posted a combined score of 36.45, while Reynolds finished with a score of 36.6.
Maruhashi also tied on bars for second place with a gymnast from Issaquah, scoring 9.0.
The Mercer Island senior took third on floor with a score of 9.35.
