Extra public swims at Mary Wayte Pool
Mercer Island Mary Wayte Pool will hold extra public swims from Monday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 30. The 2-4 p.m. swim are $4.25 and the 5:30-7 p.m. swims are $3.25. The Public swims are designed for parents to practice or play with the children, or for kids to just come and play in the water. The pool will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Mary Wayte Pool is operated by Northwest Center, a non-profit organization.
Boys lacrosse, grades 5-8
Registration for spring lacrosse will take place Jan. 12 at Islander Middle School at 7:30 p.m. The season will start in early February and continues through May. Practices are during the week with games on the weekends. Contact Jody Beckwith at 232-1489 for more information.
Elementary coed lacrosse program
Registration for spring lacrosse program will take place Jan. 12 at Islander Middle School at 5:30 p.m. The season will run from March through May, with practice once a week and games played on Sunday afternoons. Contact Edith Rothenberg at 232-7198 for more information.
Gators devour Eagles
The Gator varsity and 6th Grade divisions defeated Snoqualmie, and the Junior Varsity division had only two matches.
Varsity: IMS 78, Snoqualmie 24 - 78 pounds - Kyle Shanafelt (W) forfeit; 85 pounds - Connor Kelsay (W) forfeit; 90 pounds - IMS (L) forfeit; 95 pounds - Tucker Vassua (W) pin fall, (2nd period); 100 pounds - Doug Mahony (W) forfeit; 105 pounds - Jon Wettack (W) technical pin fall (19-4); 110 pounds - Brett Mills (W) (10-3); 115 pounds - James Kashima* (W) (14-3); 120 pounds - Nate Beckett (W)pin fall, (3rd period); 125 pounds - MI (L) forfeit; 130 pounds - Colton Knebel (W) pin fall, (2nd period); 137 pounds - Cole Johnson (W) forfeit; 145 pounds - Evan Moline (W) forfeit; 154 pounds - TJ Blackburn (W) forfeit; 164 pounds - IMS (L) forfeit; 175 pounds - Steve Leighton (L) forfeit; HVY - Double forfeit. * Defending League Champion Note: All 24 Snoqualmie points were awarded on forfeits. IMS won every match wrestled.
The next IMS match is at home, Wednesday, January 4, 2005, at 3:30 PM.
Kangas finish third in Washington state
The Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club's 12-and-under Kickin' Kangas completed their successful soccer season in the semi-finals of the Washington state championships. The Kangas qualified as the wild card at state and played through, eventually losing to the state champions Dec. 3 in Silverdale.
``Finishing third out of 350 teams statewide is a testament to the hard work and dedication by the players and their families from July to December,'' said head coach Jeff Stickney MD. Stickney was assisted by Oliver Boye.
The Kangas' season record was 9-3-4.
Hec Ed game tickets for boys basketball
The Mercer Island boys basketball team is set to play the No. 4 ranked team in California, Marin Catholic, on Thursday, Dec.
The team is currently selling tickets to the game, which will be held at the Bank of America Arena at the University of Washington. Tip off is at 1 p.m.
All players and parents in the high school basketball program are selling tickets for the game.
Tickets will also be available at the door on game day.

IBC Cascade Pony registration
The Island Baseball Club's Cascade Pony baseball league 2006 program is open to all Mercer Island residents with league ages 13 and 14 (age as of July 31, 2006). Sign-ups are by mail and will run from December to Jan. 31. The registration forms may be downloaded from the Handout section of the Island Baseball Club website at eteamz.com/islandbaseballclub.
