Islanders take fourth-grade basketball title

A team from Mercer Island won the fourth-grade division during the Tulalip Casino 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on the weekend of Aug. 13-14. The Islanders went 5-0 and concluded with a 16-8 victory in the final game. The tournament played host to 13 fourth-grade teams. The Mercer Island team consisted of: Jacob Stenberg, Christopher Lawler, Dylan Foreman and Josh Stenberg.

Miller and Shanks place second in Oregon

Islanders David Miller and Elliott Shanks finished second at the Seaside beach volleyball tournament in Oregon during the boys 18-under bracket. The duo lost to a team from Hawaii in the finals.

Basketball tryouts for boys' teams

Tryouts for the Mercer Island Boys Basketball Program, as a part of the Eastside and Cascade Traveling League Teams, are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Monday, Sept. 19. The tryouts for for 5-, 7- and 8-grader-students will be held at Mercer Island High School from 4:30-7 p.m.

The sessions for sixth graders are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14 and Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club from 4:30-7 p.m. The Eastside Traveling Teams are sponsored by the Mercer Island Boys Basketball Booster Club.

The Cascade Traveling League Teams are sponsored by the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club.
