Lowell named athletic director at Beach Club

Mercer Island High School aquatics coach Jeff Lowell has been named as the athletic director for the Mercer Island Beach Club for the 2005 summer.

At Mercer Island Beach Club Lowell will lead summer athletic activities part-time from May through August. He will be responsible for staff orientation and training, supervision and development of the swim, dive, tennis and water polo teams and lesson programs for tennis and swimming. Lowell will supervise coaches and teachers to train, educate, and motivate athletes.

Lowell is a certified counselor and English teacher at the high school. Lowell just completed his seventh season coaching the Islander boys' swim team and his fifth season as head coach of the girls' team. Over the years, his athletes have won both team and individual titles, and have broken records, all the way to the State Championship level. Lowell was named Washington's AAA ``Coach of the Year'' in 1999 and 2003. Prior to taking his positions at the high school, Lowell coached the Mercerwood Shore Club swim team for seven years, taking them to first place championship in the Midlakes league in 1997.
