Two Island divers compete at AAU Nationals

Two Mercer Island youths qualified for and participated in the AAU National Diving Championships held in Orlando, Fla. July 28-29. In semifinal competition, Holly Frost came in 15th on one-meter board with a score of 285.50 and 26th on three-meter board with a score of 295.70. Beau Riebe came in 15th on one-meter board with a score of 300.10 and 11th on the three-meter board with a score of 339.90. This qualified him to compete in the finals event (top 12 from semifinals) in which his final score was was 322.90, placing him 12th in the national competition. Holly will be a senior at Seattle Prep and Riebe will be a junior at Mercer Island High School. Both divers dive year round with Pacific Northwest Diving in Federal Way.

Mudville baseball tryouts for 2008

Mudville baseball tryout dates for the 2008 AABC Select 18U through 10U teams are posted at mudvillebaseball.org. Tryouts will be held on Aug. 11 and 19 at Island Crest Park, 5800 Island Crest Way. Registration is available online.

Pool swim lessons

Adapted aquatic lessons for children and adults with special needs are now being offered. Instructors are trained through the Children’s Hospital Adapted Aquatics program. Lessons are one-on-one for optimal individualization. Cost is $9 per lesson. Call 296-4370 for more information.
