Golfers finish fourth at state tournament

The Mercer Island girls golf team finished the season in fourth place at the state tournament.

Sisters Lindsay and Haley Chinn finished in the 12th- and 13th-place spots, respectively. Lindsay Chinn had a final score of 163, after a 79 and 84 on the second day. Freshman Haley Chinn finished 17th overall, shooting an 82 on day one and 83 on day two for 165 total. Chelsee Saelee finished 40th after disqualifying on the second day with a tournament total of 155. Her day-one total was 77.

The Islanders had two other teammates at the competition, but did not make it to the final round of play. After day one, Alana Brooks finished 43rd with a 94 and Sarah Peterson finished 60th with a 98.

Head coach Don Papasadero said the team viewed the tournament as a success after entering the most girls from one school into the competition.

Charlie Kern, a sophomore at MIHS and the boys team’s lone qualifier, finished 22nd overall in the boys tournament, part of a four-way tie for 19th place in the tournament. He finished with a two-day total of 152, after a 75 on day one and 77 on day two. The first-place finisher, from Camas High School, won the 3A boys title with a two-day total of 141.
