This weekend is Free Fishing Weekend, sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). For two days only, June 6-7, no fishing licenses will be required in Washington, so grab a line and a pole and head to one of the state's thousands of miles of shoreline to test your hand at angling.

The free fishing weekend also includes shellfish catches, but rules such as size limits, bag limits and season closures are still in effect.

The WDFW had created a new Web site to help beginners learn some of the finer points of angling. The site "Go fresh, go local - go fishing" can be found at www.wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/fish-local. The site provides a highlight of fishing seasons, spots in communities across the state and information and tips for every angler.
