Islander Elizabeth Vincent was recently named to the 2009 U.S. Rowing Junior Women’s High Performance Team.

The select crew of 14 oarswomen and one coxswain was chosen from the 2009 Junior Women’s National Team Selection Camp, held June 22-July 5 at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

Vincent, a Mercer Island High School junior, rows locally for the Mt. Baker Rowing Club and placed sixth in coxen fours at Nationals last month..

Last weekend, Vincent’s coxed eight crew finished first in the intermediate division at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia.

The High Performance Team is next scheduled to leave on July 9 for training in Berlin, Germany, with the German national team. The trip is intended to provide athletes with eligibility remaining for the junior national team the opportunity to gain international racing experience.
