The Mercer Island boys golf team finished its regular season last week as the undefeated 3A KingCo champion, and won the KingCo medalist tournament, qualifying six golfers for districts.
“The team is gelling and peaking at the perfect time of the season,” said head coach Tyson Peters.
The team beat Mount Si by 17 strokes to win the Medalist tournament. It is the second time in two years all six players qualified for districts.
Last week beat Woodinville, Ballard and Inglemoor in the final three matches.
Following the Woodinville win at Echo Falls Golf Course, the boys team traveled to Jackson Park Golf Course to take on Ballard, which it beat 185 strokes to 213.
Charlie Kern finished first with 32 strokes on the par 36 course. There was a tie for second place between Eric Frank of Ballard and Kirby Ingram, who each earned a score of 37. Brandon Shin was fourth with a 38 and Crawford Leeds finished in fifth place with a final score of 39.
In the boys’ last home meet of the regular season, they hosted Inglemoor, winning 189 to 202. Kyle Code tied with Kyle Allar, of Inglemoor, for first place with 35 strokes, one stroke over par. Kern finished in a fourth-place tie with his teammate, George Jiranek, at 37 strokes apiece.
The district tournament is this upcoming Monday at Horbour Pointe Golf Course.Contact Mercer Island Reporter Reporter Megan Managan at firstname.lastname@example.org or (206) 232-1215 ext. 5054.
