Girls soccer: Mercer Island starts state tourney Tuesday night

The Mercer Island High School girls soccer team will kick off the 2009 state tournament Tuesday night during the first round against Auburn Mountainview.

After taking the KingCo title the team automatically qualified for the tournament. The game will be begin at 7 p.m. in Islander Stadium.

The Mercer Island High School girls soccer team was honored during the KingCo conference trophy presentation. Several players on the team, which won the conference title, were also honored.

Head coach Adam Gervis was named the KingCo 3A coach of the year, and named to the KingCo first team were: Ellen Haas, Mary Hill and Erin Bourguignon. Named to the second team were Lauren Frank and Tara Nielson, and to the KingCo third team: Rachel Pedreira, Beth Felker, Claire Jensen, Celina Solomon and Corey Goelz.
