The Mercer Island boys basketball team was unable to defeat the undefeated Bellevue Wolverines tonight at MIHS, losing 67-59.
Mercer Island lead for much of the game, but in the final moments of the fourth quarter Bellevue found their opening to gain a consistent lead.
Aaron Bright, a senior for Bellevue had 17 points in the win, while Nate Sikma put up 20 for the Wolverines. Mercer Island's Quinn Sterling had 18 points for the Islanders.
The Mercer Island girls team beat Bellevue earlier in the night 65-40 to hold on to their No. 1 spot in KingCo.
Between the games, the gym was dedicated to former long time boys head coach Ed Pepple and his wife Shirley.
See next week's issue for a full recap and the coach's thoughts.
