Islanders earn personal finishes at 3A state track competition

The five members of the Mercer Island track and field team who competed last weekend finished strong in their events.

The wet weekend in Tacoma, at Mount Tahoma High School, started with junior Aaron Elefson earning a ninth-place finish in the boys 3,200-meter race. He finished in 9:19.47. Later that evening, Molly O’Callahan finished the girls 3,200 in 16th place with a time of 11:41.96.

Junior Cora Miller earned an 11th-place finish in the girls 300-meter hurdles preliminary race with a time of 47.86.

Sophomore Carly Andersen finished the girls javelin competition in 13th place with a throw of 99’03. Teammate and fellow sophomore Lauren Ellis was 14th in the javelin with a throw of 98’07.

Columbia River High School won the girls 3A competition as a team, while North Central was the boys 3A team champion.
