Mercer Island girls U13 soccer team wins Starfire Memorial Day Cup | Sports brief

The Premier Eastside FC girls U13 Red A soccer team won the Starfire Memorial Day Cup tournament in Tukwila. The team includes Mercer Island resident Katie Bernardez and Piper Casey, both 12-years-old. Bernardez is a sixth grader at Lakeside School in Seattle and Casey is a sixth grader at Islander Middle School. The team is coached by Kelli Smith.

The team played Highline Premier FC in the finals, beating them in penalty kicks 7-6 after regulation time ended with a 0-0 tie.
