Baker, Michaels will compete in Class 3A state Cross Country meet

Two Mercer Island girls Cross Country runners will make the trek to Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco for the Class 3A state Cross Country meet on Nov 4.

Mercer Island junior Maggie Baker captured eighth place with a time of 19:00.40 and senior Chloe Michaels finished in 25th place with a time of 19:52.62 at the Class 3A Sea-King District Cross Country meet on Oct. 28 at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah.

                                The Mercer Island Islanders girls golf squad finished in third place at the Class 3A state tournament on May 23 at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane. The Islanders, who finished with a total of 70.5 team points, finished 21 points behind first place Bellevue. Mercer Island golfer Gihoe Seo captured third place individually with a total of 151 strokes at the two-day tournament.

                                The Mercer Island Islanders 1600 relay squad consisting of Maya Virdell, Gretchen Blohm, Maggie Baker and Kayla Lee earned first place with a time of 3:52.75 at the Class 3A District II championships at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle. Lee (pictured), who ran the fourth and final leg of the relay, was well in front of all other competitors down the stretch. Holy Names finished in a distant second place with a time of 4:00.44.

                                The Mercer Island Islanders 800 relay squad consisting of Eliza Crenshaw, Maggie Baker, Kayla Lee and Gretchen Blohm captured first place with a time of 1:42.80 at the Class 3A District II track championships on May 18 at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle. Ballard finished in second place with a time of 1:44.20.
