Boys basketball: The Mercer Island boys team improved to 2-1 on the new season with a 65-49 victory over the Liberty Patriots (2-2) on Dec. 10. The Islanders suffered their first loss of the season to the Eastlake Wolves (1-1) in a close 69-68 loss on Dec.6.

Girls basketball: The Mercer Island girls team (1-2) dropped a 48-36 game to the Liberty Patriots on Dec. 11. The Islanders picked up their first win of the season, a 58-43 win over the Shelton Highclimbers (1-3), on Dec. 7.
