Mercer Island soccer teams take first, second at Tukwila tourneys

Mercer Island High School athletes Riley Milburn and Joris Vandebospoort helped their Eastside FC BU17 White team win the 2017 Washington Youth Soccer Presidents Cup on Feb. 12 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

The Eastside FC White team defeated Whatcom FC 1-0 on Feb. 5 and the Greater Seattle Surf 2-1 on Feb. 11 to advance to the championship match. In the final, Eastside FC dispatched Kitsap Alliance 1-0 to take the title.

Also in Tukwila, six Mercer Island soccer players helped their Eastside FC Boys 99 Red team finish second at the Washington Youth Soccer state championships, which wrapped up Feb. 12 at Starfire Stadium.

Ryan Moline, Mitch Meade, Mitch Graesser, Alex Platou, Reis Kissel and Hunter Bauman helped Eastside FC overcome Crossfire Premier 4-3 in penalty kicks in the tournament semifinal round to reach the title game. Eastside FC fell 2-1 to Washington Premier in a hard-fought final match.

All six players will compete on the soccer pitch for Mercer Island High School this spring.
